AZALEA
I feel azalea is a difficult subject for photo shooting. The flower
has three dimensionally big structure, thus if we take azalea's photo closely
with macro lens almost everything gets out-focused. A pistil has
little expression in its surface appearance and its color is similar to
that of petals. So it is difficult for a cameraman to express contrast
between pistil and petals. When we take their photos from a distance,
other flowers and/or background view come in a picture. Therefore,
good flowers' condition and neat scenery are desired, but flower withers
soon after full bloom. I think a timing of full blown is a little
too late to take photos at a distance, there would be some withered flowers.
I have therefore rarely taken azalea's photos till this year.
The 4 photos are taken in Kikko Park in Iwakuni-city, Yamaguchi prefecture
where is famous for Kintaikyo-bridge, one of the three Ancient Bridge of
Japan.
First photo is a hedge with full blown azaleas. I took it with
a small aperture to get deeper depth of field, but not make it pan-focused.
Slightly out-focused background makes a picture more impressive.
Second photo is a reflection of azaleas on the water surface.
I took it with slow shutter speed to make water surface fantastic.
Third photo is a bee flying above azaleas. I focused on a bee
in the flower, and pressed the shutter button just after the bee leaving
from the flower.
The last photo is taken with a macro lens. As I explained, the pistil
has similar color to that of petals and almost all object in the picture
are out-focused. I took care of layout of patterns on the petals, though
they are out focused.
